The W.S. Neal baseball team won the Escambia County tournament Friday with a 2-1 decision over Flomaton.
In the first game of the Escambia County tournament Thursday in Flomaton, the W.S. Neal Eagles rallied to defeat Escambia County 9-5 to improve to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the tournament.
Tyler Cross picked up the win for the Eagles in relief of starting pitcher Bradley.
Cross went three innings and allowed one run, two hits, and had two strikeouts.
Bradley went the first three innings and allowed four runs, four hits, one walk and had two strikeouts.
Cooper went the final inning and allowed two hits.
Christian Purvis led the Eagles at the plate. Purvis, an eighth grader, was 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
Jake Cannon was 2-for-4 and Logan Williamson was 2-for-3 with one RBI in the win.
William Shell was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and Cross was 1-for-5 with an RBI.
Reid Johnson was 1-for-4 with an RBI and Bradley was 1-for-4.
Brian Settles was 1-for-1 with an RBI and Taylor Cash was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
After being down 5-2 after four innings of play, the Eagles batted around in the top of the fifth inning and scored six runs to claim a 8-5 lead.
Shell started the inning off with a single and was followed by Cross with a single.
After an out for the Eagles, Johnson doubled down the third base line to score Shell.
Bradley was then intentionally walked to load the bases and Purvis singled to score Cross and Johnson to give the Eagles the tie at 5-5.
Purvis then scored on a wild pitch to bring Shell back up to the plate. Shell singled to score Williamson and Dodson Herrington to give W.S. Neal an 8-5 lead.
Purvis would later score in the top of the seventh inning to give the Eagles the 9-5 win.
The Eagles were set to finish the county tournament on Friday after Saturday’s games were canceled due to the rain.
W.S. Neal will be back in action on Monday when they travel to Florala. The Eagles will be back in action at home on Tuesday when they take on Central at 4 p.m.
