Officials with Weyerhaeuser iLevel Company have confirmed the indefinite layoff of more than 70 employees at the Castleberry plant.
Thompson said the company could not confirm whether employees would be asked to return to their positions at the plant any time in the near future.
Thompson said employees released from their jobs were given a severance package and other services in an effort to help relieve the stress of the situation.
Thompson said although the move was needed, it was not an easy thing to do.
Thompson said about 100 employees remain on payroll at the Castleberry facility.
Weyerhaeuser’s currently facility first began operation as Truss-Joist McMillan in 1999.
Groundbreaking for the location was held in late 1997 with production beginning in late 1998. Thompson said the future of the plant is uncertain at this time.
