The Brewton community can be proud of its many artists — of all ages and talents.
Just this week, we learned that Clarence Stewart won the Alabama Waterfowl stamp art contest for the second time.
Stewart’s art will be immortalized on the state duck stamp in 2010-2011. He won the same contest in 2005.
Last month, the T.R. Miller High School seniors put on a performance of the musical “Grease,” which by all accounts was a successful showcase of their talent.
Later this week, local actors and actresses will take the stage for Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “South Pacific,” with performances scheduled all weekend.
The show will be performed at the Jefferson Davis Community College's Woodfin-Patterson Auditorium Friday and Saturday  at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets are $7 per person.
Also this week, an exhibition of local artists sponsored by Brewton Council of the Arts will begin showing at Jefferson Davis Community College.
The exhibit will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the college.
The Council of the Arts also sponsors a student art exhibition every year, so we look forward to seeing that show as well.
We have so many talented individuals in our community, whether they are showcasing their artwork or performing on stage in recitals or plays for schools, dance companies or theater groups.
We are lucky to live among such talented people — and to be able to enjoy their talent as well.
