After going winless to start their 2009 season at the Escambia County tournament in Flomaton last week, the T.R. Miller baseball team picked up their first win of the season Monday in Evergreen.
The Tigers got a combined pitching no-hitter from starting pitcher Corey Rilling and Ryland Dixon as they defeated Hillcrest 15-0 to improve to 1-3.
Rilling was the starting pitcher for the Tigers and he went three innings and allowed no runs, no hits, walked one and struck out six.
Dixon went two innings and had two strikeouts in the win.
The Tigers scored two runs in the first inning, three in the second inning, five in the third inning, four in the fourth inning and one in the fifth inning to claim the win.
Sam Sharpe led the Tigers with a perfect 4-for-4 day at the plate. Sharpe added four RBIs in the 15-run win.
Grant DeFransisco and Stephen Warren were both 1-for-2 with one RBI each and Garrett Robinson was 1-for-4.
Robert Knowles and Rilling were 1-for-2 in the win.
Conner Denton was 1-for-3 with three RBIs to held aid the Tigers into their first win.
Escambia County 11, T.R. Miller 9
Just like in their first game of the season and their first game of the Escambia County tournament against Flomaton, the Tigers fell to a six-run inning against the Escambia County Blue Devils 11-9.
The loss dropped the Tigers to 0-3 after suffering a 4-3 loss to W.S. Neal in the second game of the tournament on Friday.
Against Escambia County, the Tigers scored two runs in the first inning, one in the third, three in the fifth and three in the seventh, but it was not enough as they fell by two.
Escambia County scored three runs in the first inning, one in the third inning, six in the fourth inning and one in the seventh inning.
John Mathieu took the loss on the mound for the Tigers. Mathieu went two innings and allowed four hits, three runs and had one strikeout in the loss.
Garrett Robinson was 3-for-4 in the loss at the plate. Wes Dickey was 2-for-5 and Wil Riggs was 2-for-2.
Mathieu was 1-for-4 and Caleb McAnally was 1-for-1.
Sam Sharpe was 2-for-4 with one RBI and Corey Rilling was 2-for-4. DeFransisco was 2-for-2 in the loss for the Tigers.
W.S. Neal finished first in the tournament with a 3-0 record as they defeated all teams.
Flomaton took second place with 2-1 record, falling to W.S. Neal as their only loss.
Escambia County finished in the third place slot with their lone win coming against the Tigers.
The Tigers will be back in action at home on Friday against UMS-Wright.
Game time is set for 4:30 p.m. for the JV and 6 p.m. for the varsity.
