Americans can overcome the current recession by remembering their history, Alabama two-year college Chancellor Bradley Byrne told members of the Brewton Area Chamber of Commerce Thursday night.
Byrne gave a laundry list of productive companies in Alabama — including four major automobile manufacturers, helicopter manufacturers and others — that are producing at the highest levels in their industries.
Charged with leading workforce development in the state, Alabama’s two-year colleges will have a prominent place in the economic recovery, Byrne said.
But at least in the short term, those colleges will have to do more with less — about $60 million to $70 million less, Byrne said.
But that doesn’t mean community colleges are not still committed to their mission, Byrne said.
That kind of commitment is what will help lead the nation out of the recession, Byrne said.
