JD baseball now 5-8

The Jefferson Davis Community College baseball team split a recent doubleheader with Gulf Coast Community College of Mississippi to end a five-game losing streak and improve to 5-8 overall.
JDCC lost the first game against Gulf Coast 3-0 but rebounded in game two to earn a 7-3 win.
JDCC was set to take on Faulkner State over the weekend at home and will be back in action on Hibbing Community College in a doubleheader on March 10.
Game time is set to begin at 1 p.m.
Game one: GC 3, JDCC 0
JDCC was held to only two hits as they dropped a 3-0 loss to Gulf Coast and fell to 4-8 with their fifth straight loss.
Gulf Coast scored two runs in the fourth inning and one in the fifth inning to claim the 3-0 win.
Trent Smith was 1-for-3 at the plate and Blake Long was 1-for-4 to claim the only two hits in the loss for the Warhawks.
Shane Ikner picked up the loss on the mound for JDCC. Ikner went three innings and allowed two runs on one hit and walked three and struck out six.
Kyle Wyatt and Josh Benton also pitched in the loss.
The duo went four innings and allowed one run on three hits and walked two and struck out three.
Game two: JDCC 7, GC 3
JDCC used a five-run second inning to end a five-game losing streak as they defeated Gulf Coast in game two 7-3 to improve to 5-8.
Michael Clay picked up the win for the Warhawks. Clay pitched one inning and allowed no runs, no hits, walked two and struck out one.
Four other JDCC pitchers pitched in the win. Derek Lowry went one inning and allowed one run on one hit.
Hunter Brown went one inning and allowed one hit, one walk and struck out one.
Michael King went two innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits, walked three and struck out none.
Andrew Favant went one inning and had one strikeout.
Ben Blodgett led JDCC with a 2-for-2 day and a double and one RBI.
Cody Sanderson and Reid Wynn both had doubles in the win. Sanderson was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and Wynn was 1-for-3.
Cody Turner was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and Chance Lawrence was 1-for-2.
Trent Smith added an RBI in the win.
Gulf Coast scored two runs in the first inning and held a 2-0 lead after the top of the second inning.
JDCC then struck for five runs in the bottom of the inning to claim a 5-2 lead.
Gulf Coast cut the lead to 5-3 after the top of the third inning and the game stayed that way until the Warhawks added two runs in the fourth inning to claim the four-run win.
