After failing to meet up with eventual state 3A football champion Leeds High School in Birmingham this season at the Super Six, the T.R. Miller Tiger football team will have their chance to meet up with them in the preseason.
The Tigers have agreed to play Leeds in the “Champions Challenge” set for Saturday August 22 in Montgomery at the Crampton Bowl.
Riggs said there would be two games that day with the Tigers playing the first.
Riggs has not been one to play a preseason game or a jamboree-type game before the season.
The game will be a full four-quarter football game and will not count on the team’s record. Or as Riggs said, unless you win.
The Green Wave of Leeds went 15-0 this past season and won their first ever state championship in football with a 38-21 win over Cordova. Cordova beat T.R. Miller, who finished 13-1, 40-35 in the semifinals of the state playoffs.
Leeds posted eight shutouts in 15 games last season and outscored their opponents 571-66.
