The W.S. Neal baseball team improved to 8-4 overall while the T.R. Miller Tigers fell to 4-8 as the Eagles defeated the Tigers 3-0 Monday night.
William Shell got the start and the win on the mound for the Eagles. Shell went the complete game seven innings and allowed no runs on four hits, walked two and struck out 11 in the win.
While the Eagles were able to pick up another win and Shell kept the Tigers off-balanced during the game, Eagle head coach Coy Campbell said his team did not do some things well in the game.
The Eagles scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning and one in the bottom of the second inning to get the three-run win.
Sam Sharpe took the loss on the mound for the Tigers. Sharpe went six innings and allowed three runs (not all earned) on six hits, walked one and struck out seven.
Conner Denton was 2-for-3 for the Tigers at the plate to lead in the loss. John Mathieu was 1-for-2 and Rob Knowles was 1-for-1.
Dodson Herrington, Reid Johnson, Tyler Cross, Christian Purvis, and Keith Bradley were all 1-for-3 for the Eagles.
Logan Williamson was 1-for-2 and Jacob Cannon had two RBIs for the Eagles.
The Eagles had their chances to get a bigger win as they left the bases loaded with one out in the bottom of the third inning and failed to score any runs.
The Eagles two runs in the first inning came off two Tiger errors and a passed ball and a wild pitch.
The Tigers had their chance to get on the board but could not score any runs of their own.
In the top of the fourth, the Tigers had runners at first and second with no outs, but had a runner picked off second base.
In the top of the sixth with runners on first and second and one out, Shell struck out his ninth and tenth batters to end the inning.
In the top of the seventh inning, a walk and a hit batter for the Tigers placed runners on base and an Eagle error advanced the Tiger runner who was called out trying to advance to third and the Eagles won 3-0.
