The recession has touched just about everyone — including cute and furry puppies. The Escambia County Humane Society said last week that it has been inundated with puppies, most likely because people can’t afford to care for them as the economy continues to suffer.
And with pet adoptions slowing as well, the humane society just about has more puppies than it can handle.
If you have room in your heart and home for a dog, we encourage you to stop by the humane society and pick one out — surely among the hundred or so fuzzy faces you will find one who strikes your fancy.
Dogs can be a great addition to a family, but we know that they can also be a lot to handle, so we hope that you will only adopt one if it’s the right thing to do for your family.
All of the pets that are adopted from the Humane Society of Escambia County are spayed or neutered — an important step that can help prevent unwanted puppies and kittens in the future.
If you already have pets at home, we encourage you to have them spayed or neutered. That can help keep animals from being abandoned or sent to the Humane Society, where there is no guarantee they will find a good home.
If you can’t adopt a pet right now, please consider donating to the Humane Society. While monetary gifts and food are always welcome, the organization could also use something most of us are going to throw away anyway — clean, plastic bottles with screw caps, such as milk jugs or soda bottles. That’s a way to help the environment and the humane society — and all it costs you is a few minutes.
