In Brewton, we enjoy living well

Brewton’s healthcare community has a wealth of stories to tell.
Local doctors at D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital and Brewton Medical Center are helping foster a new generation of physicians through a unique program that pairs them with medical students.
Those students are learning about practicing medicine in rural areas that are often underserved by primary care physicians.
We’re proud that Brewton doctors are helping teach folks who eventually will become their peers — perhaps even right back here in our community.
Meanwhile, optometrist Dr. Carl McInnish has a unique view of how our senses can work together to affect everything from our productivity and coordination and even reading and spelling skills.
And anyone who has ever heard him talk about his passion for the subject knows that he considers all of it “cool.”
You can read more about the Alabama Medical Education Consortium and about Dr. McInnish’s practice inside today, in our first issue of Well, a new magazine about Brewton living.
For our first issue, we focused on health and fitness — a topic important to many in our community, and a timely one as we celebrate Doctors’ Day on Monday.
The magazine is full color, in a size handy for reading and referencing. We’ve included stories, health and fitness tips, recipes and some information vital to healthcare today — including the need for an accurate medical history and vaccinations for children.
In future issues, Well will focus on other aspects of living in Brewton and east and central Escambia County — home decorating and gardening; recreation; shopping and dining.
Just as we do in the newspaper, we want to write on what’s important to people in our community — but with a different twist that focuses on living well.
We hope you enjoy this full-color first issue of the magazine, and we’re grateful to our advertisers for helping us make it happen.
If you miss your copy of Well, you will be able to find this issue at doctors’ offices in Brewton.
