Four workers at Frit Car in Brewton were injured Friday afternoon after apparently coming in contact with a chemical inside a rail car at the plant, officials said.
Two workers were taken to hospitals by LifeFlight, and one weas transported by ambulance, Brewton Fire Chief Lawrence Weaver said. A fourth worker was treated on the scene.
Weaver said the chemical was contained in the rail car, and no other employees nor the public were in danger. The workers were overcome by fumes from a rubber solvent solution used to coat the inside of the tank car, Weaver said.
By 3:45 p.m., workers were able to leave the plant, and new shift workers were able to enter.
In addition to the Brewton Fire Department, Brewton Police, the Escambia County Sheriff's Department, EMS and Alabama State Troopers responded to the scene.
