With no opposition in Tuesday’s primary, Senate District 22 candidate Marc Keahey has been able to raise much more money than he has spent so far.
That leaves whichever Republican candidate emerges victorious from Tuesday’s primary to face a formidable war chest.
According to campaign finances reports filed Thursday in advance of Tuesday’s Republican primary, state Rep. Keahey, D-Grove Hill, had raised another $94,150, increasing his total campaign balance to nearly $249,000 after expenditures.
Republican Judy Belk, of Citronelle, raised $20,075 during the last reporting period. After expenditures, she had $4,245.
Republican Danny Joyner, of Brewton, raised $44,721 during the last reporting period and also secured a $15,000 loan for his campaign. After expenditures, he had $9,717, according to his campaign finance report.
Republican Greg Albritton, of Evergreen, raised $11,770 during the last reporting period and spent $43,491, leaving him with $7,753 campaign account.
Albritton and Belk reported contributions almost entirely from businesses and individuals.
Joyner has received contributions from businesses, individuals, Republican organizations, and a few political action committees, including Gun Owners of America, the Community Bankers Association of America and Progress PAC.
Keahey has received contributions from businesses, individuals, political organizations and a number of PACs, including SEA PAC, North Alabama Leadership PAC, Alabama Medical PAC, Professional Psychologists PAC and Alabama Builders PAC.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Republican candidates are the only candidates on the ballot. A primary runoff, if necessary, will be June 2, with the general election June 21. If there is no primary runoff, the general election will be June 2.
