Thursday was a big day for the W.S. Neal Lady Eagle softball team. Not only were the Lady Eagles getting off for spring break, but they picked up their first two wins of the season in big fashion.
The Lady Eagles stormed by B.C. Rain 17-2 in game one and 18-3 in game two to improve to 2-11 overall and 2-3 in area play.
W.S. Neal High School Lady Eagle head coach Jeff Haney said not only was he proud of the win, he was proud of the girls on the team.
W.S. Neal will be off this week due to spring break, but will be back in action on Tuesday, April 21 in an area game at UMS-Wright in Mobile.
Game time will be at 4:30 p.m.
Game one: W.S. Neal 17, B.C. Rain 2
In game one against B.C. Rain Thursday at home, the Eagles benefited from an 11-run first inning after being down 1-0 to claim an 11-1 lead.
The Lady Eagles then added six runs in the second inning to grab a 17-1 lead. B.C. Rain scored one run in the top of the third inning, but the Lady Eagles claimed the 15-run win in three innings to get their first win.
W.S. Neal had 13 walks in the first inning and scored 11 runs without getting a hit to get the big win.
Kaitlin Hadaway picked up the win for the Lady Eagles. Hadaway had seven strikeouts in the win.
Game two: W.S. Neal 18, B.C. Rain 3
Hadaway picked up her second win in as many games as the Lady Eagles rallied from being down 3-0 in the first inning to scoring 18 unanswered runs to get their second win of the day, 18-3.
W.S. Neal scored six runs in the first inning, three in the second inning and nine in the bottom of the third inning to get the 15-run win in three innings.
Jackson 19, W.S. Neal 4
On Tuesday, the Lady Eagles traveled to Jackson for an area game and fell to 0-11 overall and 0-3 in area play with a 19-4 loss.
Jackson scored four runs in the first inning and two in the second to grab an early 6-0 lead.
The Lady Eagles fought back and cut the lead to 6-1 with one run in the third inning, but Jackson scored five in the bottom of the third to take an 11-1 lead.
W.S. Neal scored three in the fourth inning to cut the lead to 11-4, but Jackson added eight runs in the fourth inning to get the 19-4 win.
