After improving to 15-20 in a recent stretch of six games, the Jefferson Davis Community College Lady Warhawk softball team picked up a doubleheader sweep of non-conference Meridian Thursday afternoon at home.
JDCC picked up a 10-2 win in five innings in the first game against Meridian and escaped in the second game of the doubleheader with a come-from-behind 4-3 win in extra innings.
With the two wins, JDCC improved to 17-20 overall.
In game one against Meridian, JDCC pounded out 11 hits and used a big five-run first inning to lead to a 10-2 win in game one.
Lady Warhawk Jessica Morris got the start and the win on the mound for JDCC. Morris went the complete game and allowed two runs on seven hits, struck out three and walked none to earn the win.
After taking a 5-0 lead after one inning of play, Meridian cut the JDCC lead to 5-1 in the second inning.
JDCC responded with two runs in the bottom of the second inning to grab a six-run lead at 7-1.
The game stayed at 7-1 until the fifth inning when Meridian cut the lead to 7-2 in the top half of the seventh inning.
With their lead cut to five, JDCC scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to claim the 10-2, eight-run mercy rule to get their second straight win.
Aleah Payne drove in the game-winning two RBIs on a single that scored Sarah Huggins and Morris.
Morris was 1-for-2 with one RBI and Ashleigh Allgood was 3-for-4 with one RBI, a double and two singles.
Amber Wilson was 1-for-3 with one RBI and Sarah Vardeman was 1-for-2 with two RBIs.
Haley Wilborn was 1-for-1 at the plate in the win for JDCC.
In game two, JDCC led 2-1 until the top of the sixth inning when Meridian scored two runs on two hits and five Lady Warhawk errors.
With Meridian leading 3-2, Morris tripled to score Tiffany Jean Duncan who reached on a single to tie the game at 3-3.
In the top of the eighth inning in extra innings and a runner on second base due to tie-breaking rules, JDCC’s Carla Ray struck out the side in the top half of the inning.
In the bottom of the inning with two outs, CaSandra Yarbrough singled to score tiebreaker runner Kristin Myers to give JDCC the 4-3 win.
Ray picked up the win on the mound in relief as she went two innings and struck out four.
Allgood got the start on the mound and went three innings allowing one run on three hits, struck out one and walked one.
Kayla McKnight relieved Allgood in the top of the fourth inning and went three innings allowing two runs on three hits and struck out two.
JDCC trailed 1-0 in the top of the first inning, but answered with two runs in the bottom of the second inning to grab a 2-1 lead.
Meridian scored two runs in the sixth inning to take a 3-2 lead and JDCC tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning before getting the win in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Morris was 1-for-4 with a triple and an RBI and Brittany Cahoon was 1-for-1.
Yarbrough was 3-for-4 with one RBI and Amber Wilson was 1-for-3.
Duncan was 1-for-2 and Vardeman was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
DeAndrea Dawson was 1-for-1 in the win.
Game one: JDCC 3, Faulkner State 2
JDCC out hit Faulkner State 11-2 and scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to come-from-behind and win 3-2.
Allgood picked up the win on the mound for JDCC as she went the complete game and allowed two runs on three hits, walked three and struck out nine in the win,
Allgood was 2-for-2 with a double and Cahoon was 1-for-1 with a double and an RBI.
Yarbrough was 2-for-4 with one RBI and Payne was 2-for-3 with one RBI as JDCC earned their third straight win.
The win improved JDCC to 14-16 overall and 4-3 in conference.
Game two: Faulkner State 11, JDCC 2
Faulkner State grabbed an early 4-0 lead before JDCC cut the lead to 4-2, but Faulkner scored seven unanswered runs with five in the fifth inning to take an 11-2 win.
The loss dropped JDCC to 14-17 overall and 4-4 in conference play.
Payne was 2-for-3 with one RBI and Yarbrough was 1-for-3 with one RBI in the loss.
McKnight took the loss on the mound for JDCC. She allowed two earned runs on five hits in one inning while walking one.
Game one: Alabama Southern 7, JDCC 4
JDCC fell to 14-18 overall and to 4-5 in conference play with a 7-4 loss to rival Alabama Southern.
JDCC held a 4-2 lead in the top of the fourth, but Alabama Southern scored four runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 6-4 lead and added one in the fifth for the three-run win.
Allgood took the loss on the mound. She went six innings and allowed two earned runs (seven total) on six hits, walked one and struck out 10.
Vardeman was 2-for-4 with a double and Megan Denney was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Myers was 2-for-4 with one RBI and Amber Wilson was 3-for-3 with one RBI.
Game two: Alabama Southern 12, JDCC 2
Alabama Southern scored eight runs in the first inning to five JDCC a 12-2 loss and drop the Lady Warhawks to 14-19 and 4-6 with their third straight loss.
Ray took the loss on the mound for JDCC. She went 2/3 of an inning and allowed no earned runs (eight total) on two hits, walked two and struck out one.
JDCC was held to only four hits, but made nine errors in the loss.
Allgood, Duncan, Myers and Payne were all 1-for-2 in the loss.
Game one: Wallace-State Dothan 8, JDCC 0
Wallace State scored six runs in the first inning and held JDCC to only three hits as they won 8-0 and dropped JDCC to 14-20 and 4-7 in conference with their fourth straight loss.
Allgood took the loss on the mound for JDCC. She went four innings and allowed six runs (two earned) on five hits, walked two and struck out two.
Denney, Myers and Payne were all 1-for-2 to get the only three hits for JDCC in the loss.
Game two: JDCC 4, Wallace State Dothan 2
JDCC got out of the loss column with a 4-2 win in game two as they ended their four game losing streak.
Wilson was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs to lead JDCC. The Lady Warhawks held a 2-1 lead after the first inning and after Wallace State tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the second inning, scored two runs in the top of the sixth inning to grab the 4-2 win.
Allgood picked up the win on the mound for JDCC.
She went the complete game seven innings and allowed no earned runs on five hits, walked five and struck out five.
The win improved JDCC to 15-20 overall and to 5-7 in conference play.
