Melvin Clayton “Bo” Madden, 75, died Friday, April 17, 2009, at his residence on Appleton Road, after a brief illness. He was a native and life long resident of Escambia County. He was a member of New Home Free Will Baptist Church and was retired from Steward Offshoe with 32 years of service. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Johnnie Madden and Jimmie Floyd Madden; and two sisters, Maxine Smith and Annie Pearl Burkett.
He is survived by his wife, Madie Clifton Madden of Brewton; two sons, Craig (Vicky) Madden, and James (Cathy) Grantham, both of Brewton; one daughter, Lawana (Arlan) Shelly of Brewton; four brothers, Buford (Betty) Madden of Castleberry, and Robert Earl (Shirley) Madden, Elton (Kathy) Madden, and Carl Shorty (Jolene) Madden, all of Brewton; two sisters, Carolyn (Jr.) Cooper of Brewton, and Judy (Chip) Reid of Biloxi, Miss.; seven grandchildren, Valen Shelly, Udana (Tommy) Singletary, Tylan (Britney) Shelly, Hunter Madden, Magan Madden, Courtney Grantham and Jordan Grantham; and 6 great-grandchildren, Valen Shelly, Drew Shelly, Alana Shelly, Austin Singletary, Alexus Singletary and Devon Singletary.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 19, at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Brian Bruley officiating. Burial followed at Weaver Cemetery on Appleton Road with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
