Neal Elementary hosts career day

W.S. Neal Elementary School students had a chance to hear the roar of a variety of engines during the school’s career/vehicle day Friday.
Presentations at the event were provided by the Escambia County Fire and Rescue Squad, McMillan Ambulance Service, Alabama Forestry Commission, Southern Pine Electric Cooperative, Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company, Eddie Morris – automotive instructor at Escambia-Brewton Career Technical Center and Gaylan Shelly, farmer.
Guidance counselor Marina Chancery said the event has become an annual affair at the school.
Chancery said the event hosted seven stations dedicated to various career possibilities with demonstrations geared at encouraging higher education.
Eddie Morris demonstrated some of the things he teaches in his classes at the Escambia Brewton Career Tech Center. He also talked about the importance of staying in school.
Morris and other presenters gave overviews of their job duties and details of the business or industry in general.
Presenting for the Escambia County Fire and Rescue Squad/McMillan Ambulance Service were David Blair, Keith Hawks, Justin Cole, Tronie Richardson, Cory Chavers, Kevin Hoomes, David Cole and Luther McRae. The Alabama Forestry Commission was represented by Madeline Hildreth, Rusty Johnson and Wood Jackson. Tim Hodge and Harlan Ard conducted a presentation for Southern Pine, with David Strawbridge and Dennis Tyree representing Pepsi-Cola Bottling Co.
