State health officer Dr. Donald Williamson said the first samples tested for swine flu in Alabama have tested negative, although the state is preparing to test another 29 samples for the infection which has killed one American and dozens of Mexican residents.
In a press conference Wednesday, Williamson said most of those new samples are likely not swine flu or even flu itself.
Williamson said Alabama and other states are closely monitoring the flu outbreak and encouraging people take precautions such as frequent hand-washing to avoid the spread of the disease. He also urged anyone with flu-like symptoms to stay home from work or school.
