TRM tennis goes to state

The T.R. Miller boys advanced to state by beating out Cottage Hill for No. 2 at sectionals in Mobile last Wednesday.
The win advanced the boys to state  in Decatur at Point Mallard Tennis Center.
With the win, the boys improved to 9-2.
This was  the third year in a row that TRM boys have advanced to state competition since Coach Paul  Smith has led the team. Seniors are Todd Robinson and Roy Brown.
After advancing to the state finals of the tennis season in Decatur on Monday, the T.R. Miller Tigers failed to win a match in the single play.
The loss dropped and finished the season for the Tigers at 9-3.
In the No. 1 seed, Nick Dorso fell to Mars Hill 6-4, 7-5. Todd Robinson lost in the No. 2 seed 6-0. And 6-0 to Randolph.
In No. 3, Roy Brown lost to Montgomery Academy 6-3 and 6-1. Nick Moore lost in the No. 4 slot 7-5, 6-1 to Westbrook.
Bryce Wilcox lost in the No. 5 slot 6-0 and 6-1 to Montgomery Academy and Taylor Terry lost in the No. 6 bracket 6-0 and 6-2 to Trinity.
After not winning in the singles play, T.R. Miller took a 6-2, 6-4 win over Red Bay in the No. 1 doubles (Dorso/Moore) after losing 2-6 in the first set.
After defeating Red Bay, T.R. Miller fell 6-0 and 6-0 to Randolph in the second round.
In the No. 2 doubles (Robinson/Brown), also defeated Red Bay in round one by scores of 4-6, 6-2 and 6-4 but lost to Randolph in round two 6-2 and 6-2.
In the No. 3 doubles (Terry and Wilcox), T.R. Miller defeated Red Bay 3-6, 7-5, and 7-6 (7-5) before losing to Randolph 6-4 and 6-3.
In sectionals last week, the girls came in third place and the boys came in second with 10 points.
For the girls in the No. 1 single, Andrea Alvarado had a bye in round one and defeated Cottage Hill in round two 4-6, 6-2 and 7-5.
After defeating Cottage Hill, Alvarado fell in round three to Houston Academy 6-1 and 6-2.
Jamie Li had a opening round bye in round one but fell in round two to Cottage Hill 6-2, 4-6, and 6-4.
Mallory Mullis in the No. 3 slot fell to Houston Academy 6-1 and 6-2.
Catherine Reeves fell in the No. 4 slot to Houston Academy with scores of 6-3 and 6-4.
In the No. 5 slot, LaFerria Hetherington won in round one over Providence 6-4, 4-6, and 7-6 but fell to Bayside in round two 6-1 and 6-2.
In the No. 6 bracket, Elizabeth Nelson had an opening bye but fell to Houston Academy 6-2 and 6-3.
For the No. 1 doubles (Hetherington/Li) the Lady Tigers had a 6-2, 6-2 loss to Cottage Hill after and opening bye.
In No. 2 doubles (Mullis/Reeves) the Lady Tigers fell 6-0 and 7-6 to Houston Academy.
In the No. 3 doubles (DeAundra Hetherington and Sara Williamson) the Tigers fell to Cottage Hill 6-3 and 6-3 after an opening round bye.
For the boys, Nick Dorso lost in the No. 1 singles to Bayside 6-1 and 6-2.
Todd Robinson lost in the No. 2 singles to Bayside 6-1 and 6-2.
In the No. 3 singles, Roy Brown defeated Cottage Hill 4-6, 6-3, and 6-4 but lost to Bayside in the finals 6-1 and 6-2.
In the No. 4 slot, Nick Moore defeated Cottage Hill 6-2 and 6-2 before losing to Bayside 6-2 and 6-2.
Bryce Wilcox lost in the No. 5 slot to Cottage Hill 6-3 and 7-5.
In the No. 6 singles, Taylor Terry lost to Bayside 6-1 and 6-0.
In the No. 1 doubles (Dorso/Moore) T.R. Miller lost to Houston Academy 6-3 and 6-4.
Inn No. 2 doubles (Robinson/ Brown) defeated Cottage Hill 6-2 and 6-1 before losing to Bayside 6-1 and 6-1.
In the No. 3 doubles, Wilcox and Terry defeated Houston Academy 3-6, 6-4 and 6-3, but lost to Bayside 6-2 and 6-1.
