Brewton City Schools officials unveiled the plans for the new Brewton Middle School last week, and they show that we can expect a state-of-the-art facility with the best interest of the children at heart.
School officials and architects have taken into account academics, extracurriculars, athletics and safety in crafting plans for a facility that will likely grow and adapt with changes in our community and in education and technology.
The facility has four separate hallways in two L-shaped wings for each grade, which gives each class room to breathe and interact. Each L-shaped wing also has a science lab, which will continue to give students hands-on time to learn.
Two gymnasiums, a weight room and an aerobics room offer plenty of space for P.E. classes, competition and other activities at the school.
And a central complex with a media center, art room, band room and choir room gives students an opportunity to stretch their minds beyond the three Rs and expand their creative skills.
The school also allows for growth and for changes in technology.
School officials have also made sure that the school has safety in mind — with wider hallways, bigger classrooms, a steel-enforced structure and an opportunity to close the school off from storms or other threats.
School officials have been open to suggestions from parents, faculty and community residents, so we hope you will take time to call the school board office if you have questions about the new building, which will likely be open by fall 2011.
