Betty Watts is sick of the dust, literally.
Watts, who lives at 45 Crenshaw in the Springhill community of Brewton, addressed the Escambia County Commission at Monday’s meeting about dust and mud covering her property and the road she lives on.
Watts lives on a paved street in between two dirt roads and said she is tired of the amount of dust and dirt created when the county comes into to do street grading. She spoke to the commission about her allergy to the dust and how it has caused her medical problems.
Watts said when county road workers do come out to her house that often red clay is piled up higher than the paved road it sits next to or is on the road itself.
After addressing the board, County Engineer Bill Bridges told Watts that he had contacted his employees about the proper handling of dirt on those roads after having already spoken to Watts on several occasions and would speak with them again.
Bridges also spoke about a grant that the city recently received to pave nearby streets, but said because of the grant’s stipulations Watts street was not a forerunner.

The road has been paved for about three years and Brandon Smith, County Commissioner for District 4, said the road has many houses on it and has school buses traveling on it.
