Area players advance

Four baseball players from W.S. Neal and one from T.R. Miller were selected to play in the East-West Lions Club baseball game this past Saturday at JDCC.
William Shell, Jacob Cannon, Tyler Cross and Dodson Herrington represented the W.S. Neal High School Eagles, while Sam Sharpe was the lone T.R. Miller High School Tiger in the contest.
After Saturday’s game, Sharpe was selected to advance to the next round of competition to be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Jefferson Davis Community College  while Cross was selected as an alternate.
In Saturday’s game, Sharpe pitched two innings in game two and picked up the save as the East team defeated the West team 3-1.
In game one, the East won 4-1.
Sharpe allowed no runs, one hit and struck out one in the win for the East.
Tyler Cross had three walks and a bunt single at the plate and pitched one inning and allowed two runs, three hits, one walk and struck out one.
Cannon had a single and a walk at the plate and Shell did not pitch in the contest.
Flomaton sent four players to the game, Chris Edwards, Cody Vickery, Caleb Bethea and Keegan Lambeth.
Lambeth, Edwards and Vickery advanced to Saturday’s next round as well.
A total of 14 players advanced to the next round with two being selected as alternates.
