As the Little League regular-season came to a close last week, and the teams set their sights on the city tournament, the final few games provided those watching with plenty of good baseball.
In 11-12-year-old play, the Phillies defeated the Twins 11-9 before handing the Rays an 8-3 defeat in 11-12-year-old play.
PHILLIES 11, TWINS 9
Floyd’s bat caused more than a few nervous moments for the Phillies as he crushed a pair of home runs in his first two at-bats, leading to a 6-0 lead early.
Keaton Parker and Noah Morris added two hits apiece, while Jonathon Lucas and Will Smith contributed hits.
Ethan Tyree paced the Phillies (10-1) with three hits at the plate, while Cole Blackmon, Lowell Swain and Kyle Davis all added a pair of hits.
Jones Manning, James Peach, Christian Mancil and Troy Hart all had hits in the win.
REDS 10, CUBS 6
In the 9-10 division season-finale for both teams Thursday night, the Reds made the most of their six hits to finish with the win.
Hunter Brittain got the win on the mound by allowing just three hits, walking five and striking out six. He helped his own cause with a 3-for-3 effort at the plate, scoring two runs.
Garrett Salter contributed two hits as well, while O’Neil White had a single, walked twice and scored three runs.
White also made a great—and pivotal—defensive play at first base when he made a diving catch and tagged the base on his way down to end a Cubs threat with the double play.
Baylen Parker recorded the save in the final inning by striking out two batters with the bases loaded.
The Cubs were led by Drew Williamson’s two hits and a five-hit effort on the mound, which included three strikeouts and three walks.
Jordan Williams booked the Cubs’ only other hit. Preston Townsend made a stellar play at second, grabbing a line drive and making the throw to first for a double play. 
A’s 8, RAYS 7
At the time of the postponement, speedy Markail Mitchell was on first with a 2-0 count on Ethan Bollenbacher.
As the game resumed, Bollenbacher walked on two pitches, before Mitchell stole third base, setting up the winning run. One pitch later, Brooks Brown came through with a fly ball to center field, scoring Mitchell from third as he tagged up.
For the A’s, Kellyn Winn had a single and was hit by a pitch, Todd Mayo was 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles.
Trinn Miller contributed a single and a walk, while Tyler Hoomes added a triple and a walk.
TWINS 13, A’s 6
Luke Agerton had an impressive outing on the mound, getting the win with an 8-strikeout performance, allowing just three hits.
Will Smith came on in relief late to record a pair of strikeouts for good measure.
Agerton helped his own cause offensively with a pair of RBIs, while Smith was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs as well. Duncan Brittain had a hit and scored once, while Trippe Floyd also contributed an RBI.
For the A’s, Kellyn Winn had a single and a walk, scoring a run, while Brooks Brown added a triple and a walk.
Ethan Bollenbacher also added a hit, while Yancy Jernigan drew three walks, scoring once.
The Little League city tournament began Tuesday night with games in Brewton and East Brewton.
Games for the 9-and 10-year-old teams will be played in Brewton while the 11-and 12-year-old teams will have their games played in East Brewton.
Winners of Tuesday night’s games will play at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 28.
The winners of Thursday night’s games will play for the championship on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
In East Brewton,  winners from Tuesday will play at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Thursday.
From there, the winners of Thursday’s games will play in the championship game  of the city tournament on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at R.T. Johnson Park in East Brewton.
