Brewton was the place to show off prized possessions Saturday — be they furry friends, motorcycles or cars.
Covenant Hospice held its annual Biker Bash at Burnt Corn Creek Park, while the Humane Society of Escambia County hosted the first Wags and Wheels event at T.R. Miller High School.
More than 70 bikers registered to participate in the 45-mile ride for the Biker Bash.
Jackie Crews, development manager for Covenant Hospice, said this year’s event turned out better than events in past years.
Riders from as far away as Jacksonville, Fla., registered to participate in the ride and bikes from across the area were on display for those attending the event.
At the Wags and Wheels event, dogs from the shelter were available for adoption, and pet owners also had the chance to see demonstrations from the Furricanes — a dog group that participates in “flyball” — and from Cindy Sanford of HelpUTrain, an obedience expert. Sanford and volunteers from Santa Rosa 4H led dogs through an agility obstacle course.
The “wheels” portion of the event was a car show featuring local and regional owners.
Humane Society director Renee Jones said she was pleased with the turnout and the weather for the event.
At least one puppy was adopted at the event. Humane Society supporter Carol Gordy — who herself owns a shelter dog — encouraged more people to adopt from the shelter.
