What started out as a pitchers’ duel in the 11-and 12-year-old division city tournament championship game ended in thrilling fashion as the East Brewton Yankees rallied to defeat the Brewton Phillies 3-2 Friday night in East Brewton.
Down 2-1 heading into the final inning of play and with one out and the bases loaded, the Yankees tied the game at 2-2 on an error by the Phillies at the plate.
With the game tied at 2-2, a fly out made it two outs for the Yankees with the bases still loaded.
With a three ball and one strike count on Yankee Dalton Shell, Shell drew a bases loaded walk to score the winning run for the Yankees as they took the championship game by a score of 3-2.
The Phillies took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a leadoff homerun by Davis.
The game stayed at 1-0 until the bottom of the fourth inning when the Yankees got a one-out single from Tyler Joyner who was pitch ran for by Shell.
Shell advanced to second and third on a passed ball and scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at 1-1.
Heading into the top of the last inning, the Phillies struck with a single by James Peach and two throwing errors by the Yankees on a fielder’s choice hit by Davis to score Peach and take a 2-1 lead heading into the bottom half of the sixth inning.
In the final inning of play, Davis walked the leadoff batter (Lane Chavers), his last batter faced in the game due to pitch count, and Jones Manning relieved Davis.
A double by Miles Powell put runners on second and third with no outs in the inning. Joyner then was walked intentionally to load the bases.
On a two ball and two strike count on batter Alex O’Keane, Parker that the pitch was ball four and Chavers walked home, but was tagged out at the plate with only three balls on the batter.
With one out, O’Keane singled to load the bases. From there, Justin Sessions grounded into a fielder’s choice to the Phillie first baseman who threw home, but the ball was dropped to tie the game at 2-2.
A fly out made it two outs with the game tied at 2-2 and the bases loaded. From there, Shell walked to score Joyner and the Yankees won 3-2.
Joyner took the win on the mound for the Yankees going the complete game and allowing two runs on four hits, walked two, hit one and struck out 14.
Powell was 1-for-3 with a double and Joyner was 1-for-2. O’Keane was 1-for-3.
For the Phillies, Manning took the loss on the mound going 2/3 of an inning and allowing two runs on two hits, and walked two.
Davis got the start and the no-decision as he went five innings and allowed one run on one hit, walked three, hit one and struck out 12.
Davis was 1-for-2 with a homerun and Lowell Swain was 1-for-2. Cole Blackmon was 1-for-3 and James Peach was 1-for-3.
In the 11-and 12-year-old Little League city tournament in East Brewton Tuesday night, the Brewton Twins, Phillies and East Brewton White Sox advanced to the next round of play.
The Twins defeated the Brewton Rays 9-8 while the White Sox defeated the Brewton A’s 6-5. The Phillies defeated Flomaton One 13-1.
Brewton Twins 9, Brewton Rays 8
The Brewton Twins picked up a 9-8 come-from-behind win over the Rays Tuesday to claim a win in the opening round of tournament play.
The Twins trailed 7-0, but picked up the one-run win.
Will Smith picked up the win on the mound for the Twins. Trippe Floyd also pitched in the win.
Smith allowed seven hits, six runs, one walk and struck out five as Floyd allowed one hit, two runs, three walks and struck out one.
Duncan Brittain was 2-for-3 for the Twins with a double in the win and Troy Hart was 1-for-3.
Floyd was 1-for-2 with a two-run homerun and Smith was 1-for-2. Patrick Ard was 2-for-3 and Noah Morris and Steven Godwin were both 1-for-3.
For the Rays, Jared Cooper took the loss on the mound. Cooper allowed five hits, six runs, four walks and struck out two.
Hunter Harp also pitched and allowed four hits, three runs, three walks and struck out none.
Walker Harris was 3-for-4 and Jake Najor and Larry Cheatham were 1-for-3.
Dylan Etheridge was 1-for-2 with a double along with Chris Jones and Harp was 1-for-3 in the loss.
EB White Sox 6, Brewton A’s 5
Rob Jones picked up the win on the mound for the White Sox and was 1-for-4 at the plate with a homerun as the White Sox defeated the A’s 6-5 in eight innings.
Jones allowed one run on three hits, walked two and struck out four in the win for the White Sox.
Michael Williams and Quantae Barksdale also pitched in the win.
Williams was 3-for-4 at the plate with a double and Barksdale was 1-for-3.
Robin Swift was 1-for-3 with a triple and Taylor Elliott was 2-for-4.
For the A’s, Tyler Reid took the loss allowing one hit, two runs, two walks and struck out three.
Todd Mayo allowed six hits, four runs and struck out 11 in the loss.
At the plate, Tyler Hoomes was 1-for-4 with a double and Trinn Miller was 1-for-3. Ethan Bollenbacher was 1-for-2 in the loss.
Brewton Phillies 13, Flomaton 1
James Peach and Landon Salter combine for a one-hitter on the mound as the Phillies defeated Flomaton 13-1.
Peach allowed one hit, one run, walked five and struck out one in the win and Salter walked four and struck out two.
Cole Blackmon was 3-for-3 at the plate and Jones manning was 2-for-2. Peach was 1-for-1 with a triple.
For Flomaton, Tyler Weaver had the lone hit and run as Kinoa Gumpac took the loss on the mound along with Kevin Gumpac.
EB Yankees 12, Brewton Twins 4
After having a bye to open up the tournament in East Brewton, the Yankees advanced to the championship round of play in the tournament with a 12-4 win over the Twins.
Malcolm Hawthorne was 3-for-4 with two singles and a homerun to help aid the Yankees in the win.
While Hawthorne was hot at the plate, Justin Sessions and Miles Powell showed dominance on the mound.
Sessions picked up the win allowing four runs on six hits, walked three and struck out three.
Powell walked one and struck out three in the win.
Tyler Joyner was 2-for-3 at the plate with two doubles and Powell was 1-for-2 with a double.
Justin Sessions was 1-for-3 and Alex O’Keane was 1-for-2 along with Dalton Shell.
Brad Robinson was 1-for-1 and Nicholas Glass was 1-for-1 with a triple.
For the Twins, Trippe Floyd took the loss on the mound as he allowed seven runs on seven hits, walked two and struck out none.
Keaton Parker and Patrick Ard also pitched in the loss.
At the plate, Parker was 2-for-3 and Will Smith was 1-for-3. Floyd was 1-for-3 with a double along with Jonathan Lucas and Tyler Reid was 1-for-2.
Brewton Phillies 3, EB White Sox 1
The Phillies advanced to the championship game against the Yankees with a 3-1 win over the White Sox.
The Phillies were out hit seven to five with the White Sox have seven players get hits to only two for the Phillies.
For the Phillies, James Peach took the win on the mound allowing seven hits, one run, one walk and struck out three.
Peach was also 3-for-3 at the plate with three singles and James Manning was 2-for-3 with two doubles.
For the White Sox, Quantae Barksdale took the loss on the mound, allowing two runs on three hits, walked two and struck out three.
Taylor Elliott also pitched and allowed one run on two hits and struck out one.
Rob Jones and Barksdale were 1-for-3 and Michael Williams was 1-for-3 with a double.
Zach Williams and Lane Chavers were 1-for-2 and Dillan Simmons was 1-for-2 with a double.
Colton Morris was also 1-for-2 in the loss.
