Georgia Mae “Sapphire” Tolliver|Pollard

Mrs. Georgia Mae Tolliver, 80, died May 22, 2009. She was a native and resident of Pollard. She was a member of St. Peter Baptist Church, attended Southern Normal School, and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Lily Chaper 592. She retired from the Brewton City School System. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Bridget Washington; her children, Brenda Andrews, Barbara Ballard and Charles McGill; and six siblings, Jake, Joe, Bill, Wiggins, Emma and Johnny Lee.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, George Tolliver of Pollard; one daughter, Patricia Lewis of Pollard; fourteen grandchildren, Katrina (Sid) Dixon, Chelsea Andrews, Jay Lewis, Nick Lewis, Carlynn Andrews, Charlene McGill, Charles (Nicki) McGill Jr., Reggie Ballard, Michael Ballard, Renee (Jeff) Murphy, Jeff Clarke and Tammy Clark; 13 great-grandchildren; two sons-in-law, Paul Ballard of Upper Marlboro, Mich., and Charles Andrews of Montgomery; four brothers, Richard Washington of Bratt, Fla., Robert Washington of Pollard, Charles Washington of Brewton, and Aubrey Washington of Brooklyn, N.Y.; three sisters-in-law, Gertrude Finkley of Akron, Ohio, Ruth Savage of Brewton and Jessie Washington of Lorain, Ohio; special friends, Virginia McGill of Thomasville, and Willie Lewis; and many other friends and relatives.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 30, at 11 a.m. at St. Peter Baptist Church in Pollard with the Rev. Allen Miller officiating. Burial followed at the church cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.
