State Rep. Marc Keahey, D-Grove Hill, will take over the District 22 Senate seat left vacant by the death of Pat Lindsey, according to unofficial returns Tuesday evening.
Keahey will fill the remainder of Lindsey’s term after beating Republican Greg Albritton of Range in a special election.
District 22 includes all or parts of Baldwin, Choctaw, Clarke, Conecuh, Escambia, Mobile, Monroe and Washington counties.
Albritton won Escambia County, with 1,832 votes to Keahey’s 1,296 votes.
Albritton also won Monroe, Conecuh and Baldwin counties, while Keahey won Choctaw, Clarke, Washington and Mobile counties.
Keahey could not be reached for comment by press time, but last week he said jobs and education were a top priority in the district.
In conceding, Albritton thanked his supporters.
