A group of people described as angels has made strides in rebuilding Stallworth Memorial Park in the Pea Ridge community.
More than 20 years ago, Pearl Stallworth built a tribute to her son and three other local teens who were killed in an automobile accident. In March, a fire took down the pavilion and years of work at the site.
A project began over a week ago to rebuild the pavilion portion of the park, thanks to some generous individuals.
Danny Cottrell got the ball rolling, according to Brewton-Escambia Career Technical Center principal, Jane Henderson.
Gene Coleman, building instructor at the center, acted as foreman for the project, Henderson said.
Cottrell wanted to see the park rebuilt because of the tribute the park was to four young men.
Cottrell said the idea came from a couple of people and the group put the idea into motion.
The pavilion was a portion of the Wayne M. Stallworth Memorial Park that began in 1987 following the teen’s death. Stallworth died in an automobile accident that also clamed the lives of Sean Miller, John Miller and Thomas Miller.
Henderson said the instructors worked for seven days on the project and were busy putting the final touches on the roof Friday morning.
Cottrell said he had some assistance with securing materials for the rebuilding of the pavilion at the park.
Cottrell did say the Brewton Kiwanis Club made a donation toward the purchase of materials. Bondurant Lumber offered the materials at a discount to further help the cause.
Stallworth said the crew had been a blessing during the rebuilding process.
Stallworth said she plans to continue rebuilding the park by replacing lost playground equipment and other items in the park.
