Babe Ruth All Stars roll in win over Atmore

In the first game of the 13-year-old Babe Ruth All Star tournament in Evergreen Thursday night, the Brewton All Stars cruised to a 17-7 win over Atmore.
The Brewton All Stars used a six-run fifth inning to turn a 10-7 lead into a 16-7 lead and picked up one run in the bottom of the sixth to get the win via the 10-run mercy rule.
Brewton was set to play the winner of Evergreen-Monroeville Friday night at 5:30 p.m.
If Brewton won Friday’s game, they will be sitting in the winners bracket with a 2-0 record and will play tonight at 7:30 p.m.
If Brewton lost Friday night, they will play today at 5:30 p.m.
In the game Thursday night, the game battle back-and-forth with Brewton staying on top after falling behind 2-0 in the top of the first inning, but scoring four runs in the bottom of the inning.
Both teams scored a run in the second inning as Brewton held on to a 5-3 lead.
After holding Atmore scoreless in the top of the third inning, Brewton added three runs of their own to take an 8-3 lead only to see that lead get cut to 8-6 after Atmore plated three runs in the top of the fourth inning.
In the bottom of the fourth, Brewton scored two to grab a four-run lead at 10-6.
In the fifth inning, Atmore cut the lead to 10-7, but Brewton scored six runs in the bottom half of the inning to get within one run of the 10-run rule.
After failing to get the one run to end the game in the fifth inning, Brewton held a 16-7 lead heading into the top of the sixth where they held Atmore scoreless and scored one run in the bottom of the inning to win 17-7.
Darby Black picked up the win on the mound for the All Stars from Brewton as he went three innings and allowed five runs on one hit, struck out five and walked five.
Kieon Smith closed out the game for Brewton going three innings and allowing two runs on three hits, walked two and struck out two and hit one batter.
Damion Williams was 1-for-2 in the game with a triple and Dylan Godwin had two RBIs.
Caden Lodge was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a double and Black was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
Trey Salter was 1-for-3 and Brandon Carmichael was 1-for-1 with four RBIs.
Smith was 1-for-1 with two RBIs and Dominique Jackson was 2-for-4 in the win with two singles and an error-aided inside-the-park homerun and triple.
Brewton’s 14-year-old all star tournament will be played in Brewton and begin on Thursday, July 2.
The tournament is now a two-team tournament as Atmore has dropped out.
Brewton will take on Monroe County at 6 p.m. July 2.
The format will now be the best two-of-three and games will be played on Firday, July 3 at 5:30 p.m.
The 15-year-olds will begin play on Saturday, July 6 in Atmore against Atmore .at 7:30 p.m.
