As I am writing this column Friday morning, we have one all-star tournament that is finished (the 13-year-old Babe Ruth tournament in Evergreen) and two more teams that played last night with championships on the line.
With that said, we have three all star tournaments down and three more to go, at least.
Today starts the 11- and 12-year-old all-star tournament in East Brewton with games beginning at 5 p.m. with Brewton and Covington County playing.
At 7 p.m., Evergreen and Opp will begin play.
East Brewton will begin play on Sunday at 8 p.m. as they had an opening round bye.
On Monday, the final two tournaments will
begin.
The 10- and 11-year-old tournament will begin in East Brewton at 7 p.m. on Monday night with Brewton and Covington County starting things off.
The tournament is only a three-team tournament and Escambia County (East Brewton and Flomaton) will await the winner of that game on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Also on Monday, the 15-year-old Brewton Babe Ruth team will begin play in Atmore at 7:30 p.m. against Atmore.
Evergreen and Monroe County will start the four-team tournament off at 5:30 p.m. earlier that day.
So far, the tournaments I have been to, I have seen some interesting games.
Some have ended in heartbreak with runs scored in the final inning to eliminate our teams and other have gone down to the wire and been won in exciting fashion.
I have tried to make all games I can and I want to say to all fans and teams, I will try and get to your games when possible.
As you can see, some games are played on the same day as others in different towns and there is only one of me.
I want to wish all teams the best of luck in their games and safe travels along with family, friends and just fans in general.
Come out and support your favorite player and team and cheer them own to victory.
Just one piece of advice from this sports editor, drink plenty of fluids and try to stay as cool as possible when at these game.
This message not only goes to the fans and ones in attendance at these games, but the players also.
Lets keep the good games coming and bring home some championships to Brewton and East Brewton.
I hope all have a great July 4 today and until we meet again here or out in the world of sports, God bless.
