Bound for state|Babe Ruth wins district

Brewton’s 14-year-old Babe Ruth team cruised to their district championship Friday night in Brewton with a 20-8 win over Monroe County.
The win put Brewton into the state tournament in Huntsville, which is set to begin on Saturday, July 18.
With only two teams in the tournament, Brewton defeated Monroe County 12-2 Thursday night and 20-8 Friday for a total of 32 runs to Monroe’s 10 in the two game tournament.
Last year, members of the team advanced to state as 13-year-olds.
In the game Friday, Brewton trailed 5-1 after the first inning and 8-4 after the second inning before scoring in each of the last five innings and holding Monroe County scoreless to score 16 unanswered runs and win by 12.
Brewton scored three runs in the second, third, and fourth innings, two in the fifth inning, and four each in the sixth and seventh innings.
Tyler Dehoff relieved starting pitcher Brian Settle in the bottom of the second with no outs and a runner on third base. He  allowed one run on two hits, six walks and struck out three in five innings of work to earn the win in relief.
Settle went one inning and allowed seven runs on five hits, walked three, hit one and struck out none.
Ryan Hunt went the final inning and allowed no runs on one hit, and struck out two.
Offensively for Brewton, Hunt was 2-for-4 with one RBI and two doubles and Jacob Fillmore was 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
Kevin Davis was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and Hunter Mullins was 4-for-5 with three RBIs, two singles, a double and a triple.
Settle was 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs and Dehoff was 3-for-6 with one RBI. Wes Maddox was 1-for-2 with one RBI and Cam Blackman was 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Josh Maloy was 1-for-2 with two RBIs and Caleb Stewart was 1-for-3 for Brewton as they pounded out 21 hits.
Thursday night: Brewton 12, Monroe County 2
Kevin Davis went the distance on the mound for Brewton and struck out 10 as Brewton took game one of the tournament 12-2 over Monroe Thursday in Brewton.
Davis went six innings and allowed two runs on three hits, walked three and hit two in the win.
Davis was 2-for-4 with a triple and a double and two RBIs as Brewton took the 10-run win.
Brewton scored five runs in the first inning and held the five-run lead until Monroe County scored two runs in the fourth inning.
Brewton answered with two runs in the fifth inning and the final five runs in the sixth inning to take the win.
Hunt was 1-for-2 with and RBI and Fillmore was 1-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs.
Mullins was 2-for-4 with one RBI and Settle was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Dehoff was 2-for-3 and Stewart was 1-for-2 with a double and two RBIs.
