Brewton’s 11-12 stay alive

In the first game of the 11- and 12-year-old Little League All Star tournament in East Brewton Saturday, Brewton homered its way to a 13-3 win over Covington County.
After leading 1-0 after the first inning, Brewton trailed 3-1 after the second inning and cut the lead to 3-2 in the third inning.
Down by one, Brewton scored five runs in the fourth inning and six in the fifth inning to take the 10-run win 13-3 and advance in the winner’s bracket.
In the win, Brewton’s Chris Jones led the team with two homeruns, one in the fourth inning and one in the fifth inning, as he was 2-for-3 at the plate with four RBIs.
Kyle Davis added a homerun in the five-run fourth inning and was 1-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs.
Also leading Brewton at the plate offensively was Keaton Parker who was 3-for-4 and Jones Manning who was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
James Peach was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and Todd Mayo was 3-for-4.
Hunter Harp was 2-for-3 in the win.
Harp picked up the win on the mound for the Brewton All Stars as he went four innings and allowed three runs on four hits, walked three and struck out five.
Davis went the final inning and struck out three.
Jones’ first homerun gave Brewton a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth as he brought home Mayo who reached on a single.
Davis’ homerun plated three runs to give Brewton a 7-3 lead as he scored Harp and Parker.
In the fifth inning, Mayo led the inning off with a single and Jones followed with another two-run homerun to give Brewton a 9-3 lead.
Jones Manning later singled in Tyler Reid and Harp who was hit by a pitch and singled to give Brewton an 11-3 lead.
Keaton Parker, who singled, scored on a wild pitch to make it 12-3.
Mayo then singled in the game-winning RBI to score Manning as Brewton won 13-3.
Brewton advanced to play East Brewton, who had an opening round bye, Sunday night and lost 12-2 to fall to 1-1 in the tournament.
Brewton was set to take on Evergreen Monday night at 8 p.m. in the losers bracket.

After falling hard to East Brewton Sunday night by a score of 12-2, Brewton rebounded Monday night in the losers bracket to defeat Evergreen 9-3.
On Monday, James Peach picked up the win on the mound for Brewton as he teamed up with Kellyn Winn and Tyler Reid to toss a five-hitter.
Peach went four innings and allowed three runs on four hits, walked three, hit one and struck out six.
Winn went 1 1/3 innings and allowed on hit, walked one and hit one.
Reid went the final 2/3 of an inning and walked one.
Brewton led 1-0 after the first inning and after being held scoreless in the second inning, got four runs in the third inning to take a 5-0 lead.
Evergreen cut the lead to 5-3 in the bottom of the third inning, but Brewton scored two runs in the fourth inning on Davis’ homerun and then added two more insurance runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 9-3 lead and the win.
Todd Mayo was 1-for-3 for Brewton at the plate and Jones Manning was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a double.
Davis was 1-for-4 with a homerun and two RBIs and Jones was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Peach was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs and Keaton Parker was 1-for-3 with a double.
Hunter Harp was 1-for-3 along with Winn.
