East Brewton 11- and 12-year-old All Star pitcher Tyler Joyner allowed three hits in five innings Sunday night as East Brewton defeated Brewton 12-2 Sunday night in East Brewton.
The loss advanced East Brewton into the winner’s bracket and dropped Brewton to the loser’s bracket.
East Brewton was set to play Opp Tuesday night at 8 p.m. in the winner’s bracket game at R.T. Johnson Park in East Brewton.
Joyner picked up the win on the mound as he went the complete game five innings and allowed two runs, walked one and struck out nine.
Kyle Davis took the loss for Brewton as he went 2 2/3 inning and allowed six runs on five hits, struck out four, walked none and hit two.
Todd Mayo and Chris Jones also pitched for Brewton in the loss.
Mayo went 1 1/3 innings allowing six runs on six hits, walked one and struck out three.
Jones allowed no runs and one walk.
Davis was 1-for-3 for Brewton and Jones was 1-for-2. Mayo was 1-for-1 as Brewton had only three hits in the game.
For East Brewton, Michael Williams and Rob Jones were both 2-for-3 to lead the team.
Williams had a double and two RBIs and Jones had four RBIs in the win.
Quantae Barksdale, who just missed a walk-off grand slam to end the game, was 1-for-3 and Miles Powell was 1-for-4 with one RBI.
Joyner was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI and Justin Sessions was 1-for-2.
Nick Laster was 1-for-3 and Brad Robinson was 1-for-2.
East Brewton held a 3-0 lead after the first inning before Brewton cut the lead to 3-1 in the top of the second inning.
From there, East Brewton scored one run in the bottom of the second inning and held Brewton scoreless in the top of the third inning before scoring two runs of their own to take a 6-1 lead.
Brewton was able to score one run in the top of the fourth inning, their last run of the game, to cut the lead to 6-2, but East Brewton then used a five-run fourth inning to take an 11-2 lead.
East Brewton left the bases loaded in the bottom of the inning and failed to score one more run to end the game in the fourth inning due to the 10-run mercy rule.
After holding Brewton scoreless in the top of the fifth inning, Miles Powell scored the 12th run of the game for Brewton on a wild pitch to give East Brewton the 12-2 win in five innings.
