Joyce Peacock has lovingly cared for her daughter’s grave at Weaver Cemetery on Appleton Road for years, leaving trinkets and other items in Leeta Ann Newton’s memory.
But the grave has been repeatedly vandalized, and Peacock simply wants to know why.
Peacock said other graves in the cemetery have been affected.
Leeta Newton died six years ago, and since that time her mother has left mementos on her grave, mementos that Peacock said meant something to her.
Peacock said she didn’t know if it was teenagers doing the stealing or an adult who just doesn’t care, but it is hard for her either way.
Peacock has reported the latest thefts to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Department, and officials told her they have promised to keep a closer eye on the cemetery.
