Almost there|Brewton 14s two wins away from state title

Brewton’s 14-year-old Babe Ruth team, as of Monday night, was sitting at a perfect 4-0 record in pool play and was two games away from winning the state championship.
Brewton defeated South Huntsville 8-5 on Saturday in their first game and Covington County 8-7 in nine innings in their second game on Saturday.
On Sunday, Brewton defeated Tallassee 10-5 to improve to 3-0 in the tournament and then defeated Semmes 9-4 on Monday.
With the win, Brewton was the No. 1 seed in their pool and was set to take on the No. 2 seed from the other pool on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
If Brewton won the first game, they would play the winner of the noon game at 6 p.m. for the state championship.
Results were not known at press time.
Brewton 8, South Huntsville 5
In their first game of the state tournament in Huntsville Saturday, Brewton held a 6-1 lead through five innings and held on for the three-run win.
Huntsville cut the lead to 6-4 in the top of the sixth inning, but Brewton scored two runs in the bottom of the inning to take an 8-4 lead before Huntsville added one run in the top of the seventh.
The one run in the seventh inning was all South Huntsville would earn as Brewton picked up the win.
Ryan Hunt was 3-for-4 with a triple and Jacob Fillmore was 1-for-4.
Kevin Davis was 2-for-2 with a triple and Hunter Mullins was 2-for-3 with two doubles.
Brian Settle was 2-for-3 with two doubles in the win and Tyler Dehoff was 1-for-3.
Kevin Davis earned the win on the mound as he went 5 1/3 innings and Dehoff earned the save in 1 2/3 innings.
Huntsville had three hits in the game.
Davis struck out nine in the win and Dehoff struck out three.
Brewton 8, Covington County 7, 9 innings
Jacob Fillmore had a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning to score the game-winning run as Brewton defeated Covington County 8-7 Saturday night.
Brewton fell behind 6-0 in the top of the second as Covington County batted around in the inning.
Covington County scored one run in the top of the third inning to take a 7-0 lead, but that would be all the runs they would score as Brewton scored one run in the third inning, one in the fifth, four in the sixth and one in the seventh inning to tie the game at 7-7 and force extra innings.
Hunt was 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI and Fillmore was 1-for-4 with a double and one RBI.
Davis was 1-for-4 with three RBIs and Settle was 2-for-3.
Dehoff was 2-for-5 and Wes Maddox was 3-for-4 in the win.
Dehoff got the start and the no-decision as he pitched 1 2/3 innings.
Settle pitched seven innings for Brewton and Maddox pitched the final 1/3 innings of the game.
Brewton 10, Tallassee 5
A seven-run sixth inning led to a 10-5 win over Tallassee Sunday night for Brewton as they stayed unbeaten in their pool.
Brewton led 1-0 after the top of the first inning, but had their lead vanish as Tallassee scored two runs in the first and second innings to grab a 4-1 lead.
Tallassee added one run in the fifth inning for a 5-1 lead, but Brewton scored nine unanswered runs to get the five-run win.
Hunt earned the complete game win on the mound for Brewton as he allowed six hits and struck out two in the win.
Hunt was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Fillmore was 2-for4. Davis was 1-for-4 and Mullins was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
Settle was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and Dehoff was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.
Brewton 9, Semmes 4
With the game tied at 4-4 in the top of the seventh inning, Brewton scored five runs in the inning to win 9-4 and finish pool play with a perfect 4-0, undefeated record.
With the win, Brewton advanced to the final four at state and was one win away from the championship game and two wins away from the state championship.
Semmes led 3-0 after the first inning and 3-2 after Brewton scored one run each in the third and fourth innings.
Brewton grabbed a 4-3 lead after scoring two runs in the sixth inning, but Semmes tied the game at 4-4 with one run in the sixth inning.
From there, Brewton scored five runs in the seventh inning and held Semmes to no runs to get the win.
Hunt was 1-for-4 along with Davis and Dehoff was 3-for-3.
Cody Smith, Caleb Stewart, and Josh Maloy were all 1-for-2 in the win at the plate for Brewton.
Dehoff took the win on the mound.
