Three projects to improve Brewton’s parks — including one major overhaul — are under way, and the funding is coming from a variety of sources.
Downtown’s City Park renovation — with a new gazebo, clock tower, fountain and landscaping in the works — has been funded by an anonymous donor.
At Dogwood Hills, workers have begun digging to build a splash fountain, which is likely to be open by Labor Day. The project is being funded by proceeds from the sale of land to the Brewton City School Board for a new middle school.
Finally, Burnt Corn Creek Park is getting a new skate park with two ramps for skaters. Quality of Life Committee fundraisers have footed the bill for much of the work, and another fundraiser is set this weekend.
The Brewton Music Festival would be a great opportunity to enjoy great local music and benefit a park project we all can enjoy.
Tickets are $10 and are available at the chamber of commerce office and George’s Barbecue.
It’s great to see all of these projects under way, especially at a time when so many are pulling back in a difficult economy. In a few short weeks, we should have improved green spaces and recreational facilities for all to enjoy.
