Keep those photos coming

The best part of joining a social networking site is most certainly not the “updates” participants post throughout the day.
Sorry, friends, I just don’t always care what you had for dinner last night.
My favorite things are the photo galleries — that’s where you really catch up with the people you’ve been missing in your life.
I’ve found and been found by friends from pre-school through college, and I’m always fascinated by the photos that represent their lives today.
The mischievous girl I got in trouble with in the second grade is now a glowing mom of three. The boys I debated politics with in high school homeroom have beautiful wives and families. The girls I befriended during a summer month of study have taken off on even more adventures.
Even as a writer, I believe the old cliché that a picture tells a thousand words.
That’s why, as usual, I’m looking forward to our annual Summer Snapshots contest, in which we invite our readers to submit their best summer photos to be judged and published in a future edition.
In the past two years, we received dozens of photos of smiling children on the beach, unique vacation spots and backyard picnics. We love looking through these snapshots of readers’ lives, and it’s difficult for our judges to pick the winners.
Readers can submit up to three photos, at least one of which will be published in a future edition of The Brewton Standard.
You can send your photos by e-mail or snail mail, or just drop them at our office.
Our e-mail address is newsroom@brewtonstandard.com. Mailing address is P.O. Box 887, Brewton, AL 36426. Our office is located at 407 St. Nicholas Ave.
The first-prize photographer will receive $100, with $75 going to second place and $25 going to third place.
The deadline is Monday, Aug. 31.
I hope we will receive even more photos than last year — we’d love to see what you’ve been up to this summer.
