D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital will welcome a new surgeon next week.
Dr. Charles Lovelady will join Dr. Thomas Boshell and Dr. Craig Peterson at Surgical Associates of South Alabama, located at offices on Elliot Street, said Chris Griffin, administrator at the hospital. Lovelady will also share surgical call with Boshell and Peterson at the hospital, and the three will assist each other in surgery, Griffin said.
Wait times for patients to meet with surgeons will be shorter, Griffin said.
Lovelady is a native of Scottsboro and has been practicing in north Alabama since 1996. He is a graduate of the University of Alabama and the UAB School of Medicine.
Lovelady, who finished his surgical residency at East Tennessee State University, will begin seeing patients Monday.
Boshell said he looks forward to “working with and sharing surgical call” with Lovelady.
Lovelady said he is looking forward to moving to Brewton and serving the people of Escambia and Conecuh counties.
Lovelady enjoys collecting and touring on motorcycles, as well as working on and driving his vintage race cars.
He participates in competitive driving events — in fact his favorite event is One Lap America, otherwise known as “the Cannonball Run.” Lovelady has two sons, Charles Kelly, 24, a graduate of Auburn University, and Stuart, 18, who will be entering college this fall.
