The grandson of a Brewton couple is scheduled to have a second surgery Thursday, when doctors hope to stabilize his spinal cord.
Davis Wallace, son of Mike and Tina (Maddox) Wallace, formerly of Brewton, was seriously injured in a tubing accident near the family’s home in Bainbridge, Ga., on July 26. He is the grandson of Barbara and Jimmy Maddox of Brewton.
The teen, who celebrated his 15th birthday in the neuro-intensive care unit of Tallahassee Memorial Health Care this past weekend, suffered multiple injuries and internal bleeding from his liver, as well as severe injury is to his spinal cord in the T12-L1 area. His spinal cord was damaged, not severed, and is now misaligned, and therefore the ligaments and tendons that run through the spinal cord column are damaged, his mother wrote on a Caring Bridge site about Davis’s recovery.
Last Thursday, Davis underwent surgery to repair the front part of the spinal column. This week, doctors will stabilize the back part of the spinal column. The next step will be to fit the 15-year-old with a brace that will allow him to sit up for the first time in almost two weeks.
