Brewton Middle School teachers and administrators are beginning a new school year Monday while also looking ahead to a new school building.
Bids could be awarded next month for the project, which Brewton City Schools officials have said has attracted a lot of attention from contractors. The new school will be located on U.S. 31 North at Old Castleberry Road.
In the meantime, school officials are looking forward to the new year, Prater said.
Fifth-graders and their parents are invited to an orientation session at 2 p.m. Sunday, Prater said, with classes set to begin Monday.
At Brewton Elementary School, the first day is one filled with staggered parent meetings throughout the day, giving each grade level the opportunity for teachers to greet parents and students to ease into school.
Saundra Ellis, who is entering her second year as principal at Brewton Elementary School, said she is looking forward to and expecting a great year.
Ellis said the students will not come all day on Monday as some other school systems do, but will meet with and will be supervised by other teachers for 45 minutes while their parents meet with the teachers.
Ellis also wanted to remind parents that the school will purchase the school supplies for the children and throughout the year if needed.
Ellis said give or take a few students, the enrollment at the school right now is 450 students.
Brewton City Schools officials have said that enrollment is holding steady this year, after some years of dropping enrollment. T.R. Miller High School Principal Donnie Rotch said 385 students were registered as of last week.
Rotch said the first day of school on Monday will be a normal day of school.
