Mix a little Greek mythology and a little French countryside and you get the newest business  in downtown Brewton, Antigone.
Antigone manager Tammy Godwin said she was always fascinated by the story of Antigone in Greek mythlogy and loved the name, so when the business was started, it was just natural the store be named that. And the word “antique” looked similar to “Antigone.”
Godwin said she had always been interested in old things.
The old building in downtown Brewton, that was originally used by the Farmer’s and Merchants Bank when it was chartered in 1912, is now the home of Antigone.
Godwin related a story about one of the portraits the store has. It is of a young lady Godwin called “Madeline.” She is from another age and her frame has been damaged.
The shop joins others in downtown Brewton and that doesn’t bother Godwin.
The store is open on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, from 10:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Godwin said the hours may be extended sometime in the future.
