With a big preseason win over No. 1-ranked 2008 3A state champion Leeds, the T.R. Miller Tigers will begin the real 2009 season with another tough contest at home Friday against county rival Atmore.
T.R. Miller posted 27 points against the tough Leeds defense and turned the tables on the Green Wave to boast of their own tough defense only giving up seven points.
Riggs said he and his team put a lot into the Leeds game even though it was a preseason game.
Riggs said he saw some good and bad things in the game.
Riggs also said his team played really good on defense, and it made a difference for them.
Riggs said the priority now is staying focused for the upcoming 2009 season after the win over Leeds.
As for Escambia County this week, Riggs said things will start with Blue Devil quarterback Ricco Stallworth.
Riggs said he thinks the defense is still the strength of their team.
Riggs said a lot of people have patted them on the back and said how great they were this past week and now they have to turn around and play a really tough team, and that is a hard thing to do.
