Eagles fall in first region game

Clarke County scored 21 points in the first five minutes of the game Friday night against W.S. Neal, and the Eagles never gained momentum as they lost 35-12 in Grove Hill.
The loss dropped W.S. Neal to 1-1 overall and to 0-1 in region play, while Clarke County improved to 1-1 overall and to 1-0 in the region.
Clarke County used a five-play drive to go 62 yards to take an early 7-0 lead with 10:14 left in the first quarter.
From there, a W.S. Neal fumble and interception return for touchdowns for the Bulldogs turned into a 21-0 lead with 7:22 left to play in the first quarter.
W.S. Neal went on to make four turnovers in the first half — two interceptions and two fumbles. W.S. Neal had five total turnovers in the game.
W.S. Neal’s first touchdown came in the third quarter on a 6-yard run by Marquese Banks. The Eagles tried for a 2-point conversion but failed.
The team’s second touchdown came on a Jeremy Nicholson 2-yard run, and the 2-point conversion attempt failed again.
Jordan said he was proud of his team’s defensive play.
Meanwhile, the offense made too many turnovers, Jordan said.
W.S. Neal racked up 266 yards of offense, with 240 coming on the ground and 26 in the air. Clarke County had 242 yards offensively with 237 coming on the ground and five in the air.
Jordan said despite the loss, he thinks his team has potential.
