Cotten qualifies for golf championship

Brewton’s Robbie Cotten has qualified for the U.S. Mid-Amateur Golf Championship to be held at Kiawah Island Club in South Carolina.
Conducted by the United States Golf Association, the Kiawah Island Club will host the 29th U.S. Mid-Amateur Golf Championship from Oct. 1-8.
Cotten said as far as how it feels, it’s exciting to play in a big tournament such as this and meet people from all across the country. 
Cotten qualified at The Brickyard at Riverside in Georgia along with six other golfers.
Cotten qualified with a score of 71 and other golfers included:
Two other alternates were determined by a playoff. Both players were from Georgia.
The Brickyard at Riverside played to approximately 7,050 yards and a par 72.
It was one of 68 qualifying sites nationwide taking place Aug. 24 – Sept. 8.
Entries to the South Carolina tournament were open to amateur golfers who will have reached their 25th birthday on or before Oct. 3, and who have a USGA Handicap Index not exceeding 3.4.
The U.S. Mid-Amateur is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association.
