The name is the same at Milligan’s, but a new owner can be found greeting customers to the downtown Brewton business.
And the store has also added a new line of merchandise — children’s shoes.
David Jennings became the owner of Milligan’s in January 2007 and moved into the business, which was established 18 years ago.
Staying true to the needs of their customers, Milligan’s continues to carry the same products as they have for many years. As times have changed, some additional inventory items have been added to the items available.
The latest addition is a new line of children’s shoes. L’Amour shoes is a well-known children’s brand of shoes that are not offered anywhere else in this area.
There is nothing like shopping in a small town. In a big city, a shopper would never walk in off the street and take a couple of pairs of shoes home on approval, Jennings said.
During the spring months when they are working on graduation supplies, things can get really hectic in the store, Jennings said.
Jennings said although the local store is small it can offer the graduation materials for a competitive price.
After Jennings left his job as emergency management director with Escambia County, he went to work with Hurri-clean, a business owned by Owen Milligan. The connection allowed him an opportunity to become acquainted with the family.
When former owners Dwight and Betty Lynn Milligan made the decision to retire and sell the business, Jennings said he talked to them about the possibility of taking over.
Jennings was born and raised in Brewton and married Heather Lindsey, also of Brewton. They have two children, Stokes, 9, and Lindsey, 1.
Stacy Till and Jill Goolsby, his mother, Carolyn Jennings, join Jennings in offering customer service Milligan’s patrons have grown to expect.
Typical items available at the store include stationery, graduation supplies, card stock and invitations for all occasions.
