Balancing a budget these days is tough challenge for everyone, but East Brewton Mayor Terry Clark said this year’s city budget was more difficult than usual. The 2010 fiscal year budget was approved during Monday’s meeting of the East Brewton City Council.
Clark said summer workers were also cut and any overtime has been eliminated.
The city’s budget was balanced at just over $1.3 million for the fiscal year with the majority of the budget being earmarked for financial administration expenses.
The city is projecting to collect around $490,000 in sales taxes for the coming year, making that revenue the highest contributor to the budget.
In a breakdown of the budget expenses are expected to be $609,763 for administration expenses; $348,869 for public transportation which includes garbage and utility expenses along with fuel expenses; $202,148 for public safety which includes police salaries, equipment and repairs as well as school patrol; $124,688 for fire department including truck payments, salaries and other expenses; and $42,132 for municipal court expenses.
In other business, the council also adopted a resolution for the purpose of imposing additional fees for municipal court. The fees will be in addition to court costs and will be imposed on an individual basis.
