After six weeks of play for the 2009 football season, the T.R. Miller Tigers will get their toughest test yet this Friday night at home as they take on the undefeated Luverne Tigers.
The Tigers of Brewton are currently ranked No. 1 in the class 3A poll as of Monday and are 6-0 this season and 4-0 in region play.
Luverne, who is also 6-0 overall and 4-0 in region play, was ranked No. 6 in the poll last week.
Luverne is coming off a 50-20 win over Cottage Hill while T.R. Miller is coming off a 57-6 win over Calhoun.
In the game last Friday night against Calhoun, both teams alternated kickoff returns to start the game, but then it was all T.R. Miller.
As for this week, Riggs said Luverne is still the team to beat in their region.
Riggs said the good part about the game is what he told his players Monday morning: It’s  a big game and a lot of people don’t ever get to play in a big game.
Last year was the first meeting between the two teams. T.R. Miller earned a 14-13 win last season at Luverne.
This season, the teams are almost equal in scoring through six games.
T.R. Miller has outscored their region opponents 193-65 while Luverne has outscored theirs 208-32. Overall, T.R. Miller has outscored their opponents 251-97 this season while Luverne had outscored theirs 277-76.
