The Battle of Murder Creek is always a time of rivalry when W.S. Neal and T.R. Miller football teams meet each other on the playing field.
For a second year, D.W. McMillan Memorial Hospital will have its annual Tailgate and Donate Blood Drive Monday, Oct. 19 from noon until 7 p.m. at the hospital. Fans of W.S. Neal and T.R. Miller are invited to step up and choose their favorite team while donating blood to the Northwest Florida Blood Services.
The hospital will provide hot dogs, chips and T-shirts for all the donors, and each will receive a set of four tickets to the Battle of Murder Creek, as well as chances to win various other door prizes.
Last year, the hospital collected 99 units of blood during the drive, making it a major record breaker. Organizers said they would love to be able to break that record with this year’s event. They were able to raise $500 for school supplies that was awarded to W.S. Neal High School Principal Philip Ellis, along with a new lap-computer because W.S. Neal had the most donors.
Lisa Nordmeyer, lab manager at D.W. McMillan, said organizers are still looking for corporate sponsors.
Money raised could help teachers who had some of their supply money cut this year, she said.
Everyone is invited to come, give blood, support your team, maybe win a prize, and more importantly, win the bragging rights until next year.
