For the second straight week, the W.S. Neal Eagles were shutout on the scoreboard and gave up 52 points to a top-10 class 4A region opponent as they lost 52-0 to Jackson Friday night at home in East Brewton.
The loss dropped the Eagles to 2-6 overall and to 0-6 in class 4A region one play while Jackson improved to 7-1 overall and to 5-1 in region play.
W.S. Neal trailed 46-0 at the half as Jackson racked up 269 yards of total offense with 249 coming on the ground and 11 first downs while the Eagles were held to 38 total yards at the half with 24 coming on the ground and five total first downs.
In the second half, W.S. Neal held Jackson to only nine total yards of offense, all on the ground, with one first down while racking up 70 yards of offense all in the passing game with four first downs.
W.S. Neal head coach Kevin Jordan, whose team was dressing out under 25 players in the game, said Friday night’s game was another tough one for his team to endure.
Jordan said in the second half, his kids continued to play hard.
After the opening kickoff for W.S. Neal, the Eagles held Jackson to no yards on their first play from scrimmage, but fell to a 74-yard run from the Aggie’s Damion Bracy to put Jackson on the board at the 11:11 mark with a 6-0 lead after the missed extra point.
Bracy would have three touchdowns in the game to lead Jackson in the win.
After an Eagle interception on their first series, Jackson used seven plays to get a 6-yard score from Bracy to go up 13-0 with 6:30 left in the first quarter.
W.S. Neal was forced to punt on their second possession and the Aggies blocked the punt and recovered at the 4-yard line and used one play to go ahead 19-0 with 4:02 left in the first quarter as they held a 19-0 lead.
W.S. Neal moved the ball to the Jackson 38-yard line on their next drive, but had to settle for another punt and Jackson used a nine-play drive to go 67 yards and score to go ahead 26-0 with 7:59 left before halftime.
Three straight fumbles for W.S. Neal turned a 26-0 lead for Jackson into a 46-0 lead at the half and a 50-yard interception return for the Aggies gave them a 52-0 lead with 9:22 left in the game as they went on for the win.
Jackson finished with 278 total yards of offense with 258 coming on the ground and 12 first downs.
W.S. Neal had 108 total yards with 70 in the air (all in the second half) and nine first downs in the loss.
Tyrone Dees led the Eagles rushing with 11 carries and 35 yards while Ashton Elliott had seven carries for 27 yards.
Cam Blackman was 5-for-11 passing with one interception and 70 yards in relief of Elliott and Dodson Herrington had three catches for 52 yards to lead in receiving.
W.S. Neal will take on B.C. Rain next week in Mobile at Ladd-Peebles Stadium in their last region game of the season.
