Escambia County’s unemployment rate was down slightly for September, from 13.1 percent to 12.9 percent the previous month.
Meanwhile, the state unemployment rate was up to 10.7 percent, up from a revised rate of 10.3 percent in August.
Industrial relations officials said initial claims for unemployment benefits were at 28,000 in September, compared to 61,000 in January, the highest for the year.
