Things did not get off on the right foot for the W.S. Neal Eagles Friday night in Mobile at Ladd-Peebles Stadium.
B.C. Rain’s Michael Nevels ran the opening kickoff back 82 yards to put W.S. Neal down 8-0 after a two-point conversion just 14 seconds into the game and cruised to a 42-7 win over the Eagles.
The Red Raiders offense gave the W.S. Neal pass defense fits all night at they totaled 317 yards in the air and 321 total to drop the Eagles to 2-7 overall and to 0-7 in class 4A region one.
B.C. Rain made it a 14-0 lead after an Eagle fumble and led 22-0 with 8:20 left in the first half.
W.S. Neal picked up their lone score of the game and first in 10 quarters of play when Ashton Elliott connected with Dodson Herrington for a 39-yard touchdown pass at the 5:38 mark in the second quarter and Logan Williamson added the extra point as the Eagles trailed 22-7 at the half.
Trailing only 22-7 at the half, both teams were scoreless in the third quarter, but B.C. Rain would add a 49-yard touchdown in the air to go ahead 30-7 with 10:03 left in the game and add two interception returns for touchdowns, a 40-yard returns and a 65-yard return to get the win by 35 points.
W.S. Neal will take on archrival T.R. Miller next Friday at home in the annual Battle of Murder Creek.
